About the Position: The position performs project design and management and performs construction management for State transportation and tunnel projects. The Professional Engineer I is directly responsible for engineering details as well as satisfactory completion of highway design and construction projects in accordance with plans, specifications, and special provisions. Major duties and responsibilities 聽include, but are not limited to: Design Engineering:
Utilize professional engineering license to apply current engineering principles and theories, design specifications, and federal, state, and local design standards to develop plan sets and specifications for roadway projects. These projects consist of new construction or reconstruction of intersections, corridor widening, roadway surface treatment, bridge improvements, etc.聽
Request field survey, environmental study, traffic data, right-of-way information, hydrology/hydraulic design, structural design, utility locations/relocations, and other information as required.聽

Ensure that the planning process and design complies with applicable study requirements, the project scope, schedule, budget, and current design engineering criteria, standards, practices, theories and procedures. 聽
Coordinate with local agencies, elected officials, internal CDOT specialty groups, FHWA and other stakeholders to ensure that studies compliant with requirements, reach consensus and meets the needs or overall purpose intended.聽
Work collaboratively with technical working groups and internal CDOT specialty groups for the development of study results and a determination of final study findings.聽
Provide oversite of consultant performing studies.聽
Procure and provide guidance to consultant performing studies for CDOT.聽
Construction and Contract Management:

This position administers design, planning and project management services for multi-modal transportation infrastructure improvements associated with the Durham County Transit Plan for the City of Durham.

Engages in clear and effective communication with departments, clients, and regulatory agencies.
Collaborates with contractors to plan and coordinate work, addressing issues related to work areas, scheduling, sequencing, operations, budgets, payments, labor compliance, and administrative matters.
Reviews and implements critical path method (CPM) schedules.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field.
California P.E. license in Civil Engineering required.
Minimum 7 years experience in Construction Management (CM) and Civil Engineering.
Experience in management of client relationships.
Experience coordination with public utility agencies, i.e. PGE, Charter, SoCal Gas, etc.
Experience in coordination with government agencies, i.e. Caltrans, RWQCB, Army Corps, Fish and Game, etc.
Knowledge and experience in construction safety.
Knowledge and experience in earthwork, grading, drainage construction, streets, roads, and transportation structures. (Caltrans experience a plus).
Knowledge and experience in water, sewer, storm drain infrastructure construction and in traffic control within the construction zone.
Knowledge and experience with the implementation of State and Federal funding provisions, water regulations, and document coordination.
Knowledge and experience in Prevailing Wage requirements and compliance.
Valid, active, and clear driver鈥檚 license as regular daily travel is required.
Proficient in the use of MS Word and MS Excel.
Proficient in use of Construction Management Documentation Software (such as Procore, EADocs, etc.), a plus.
Proficient in CPM Project Scheduling software (MS Project, Primavera, Suretrak, etc.), a plus.
